Ignacio Imbier: Beware of scams where they want to ship the car to you unseen. You should only buy cars that you have actually seen. Inspect the car for oil under the car on the bottom of the oil pan and transmission. Test drive the car on the expressway. See how smooth and quiet the car rides at highway speeds. Be watchful for any vibrations or noises coming from the front of the car. Check the cleanliness of the oil on the dipstick. If the oil is brown and foamy, that would signify a cracked block, head, or gasket. When cool, check the coolant in the radiator. It should not have signs of oil (sheen on the coolant). That would also signify an engine problem. Make sure the check engine light is not on. Although, it can be reset by disconnecting the battery and it might not show up again for days. You should do the transaction with a witness to provide some protection and to be available in case a police report is needed. Make sure you know where the seller lives and even ! ask to see their drivers license so that you can copy down their name. In other words, know who the person is selling the car. Check that the VIN on the title matches the VIN on the car. People have been know to steal cars, make phoney titles and sell the car. If this happens to you and the police get involved, they could take the car and you would be out the money you paid for it. You pay the tax when you register the car. I would not buy a warranty from a dealer (I don't know if they sell ones for used cars they did not sell). The reason I would not buy a warranty from a dealer is that many of them are scams anyway. I have read of many cases where they refuse to pay for many repairs saying they were not covered in the warranty. They can say anything they want and you would have to prove them wrong. It's just not worth the headache....Show more
Sonya Volcko: Google "how to buy a used car".
Carlee Tangaro: Ok stupid. YOU DO NOT BUY A CAR ON OR FROM CRAIGSLIST!!! ! Craigslist is no different than buying a car from an ad in ! your local paper. Cragislist is NOT ebay moron.Find a car you like, go DRIVE THE F&%KING thing, have a mechanic inspect it, and buy it. How ELSE would you do it?
Lindsey Zanardi: FIRST well alternative ( you are absolutely within the US) the BANDIT is the first-rate of so much worlds being available through the years in 6 first-rate engine sizes in 3 unique frame patterns and a few first-rate guizes, ALL are 4 cyl 4 strokes All except the final three years are air/oil cooled ( last three years water/oil cooled). All ready of 2 hundred miles on a tank of gas All ready of the city speeds and freeway speeds All 120MPH + top ends ( Even the little 250 cc) sure THEY MADE A 250CC 4 Cyl 4 Stroke. If you occur to alternate the oil ordinarily each 3000-3500 miles and the clear out each 6000-7000 and use quality oil then the engine is nearly indestructable and can furnish you with years NO many years of trouble loose use ( chains sprockets and tyres forgiven) They ( appart fr! om the Harley and Honda C90) are very nearly essentially the most transformed and good supported motorbike on the earth. Go into any pub within the UK and shout Who owns a BANDIT and you'll be able to see additional than1 hand pass up , and every would have a tale or a mod to notify you and is aware of any one who can fix it for you. There are a few deals in the market for less than 1500 nonetheless there are a few Junk Yard finish of existence puppies available in the market too, so seem for originality. Just proper good fortune...Show more
Toshia Metzker: It is the same as any private party transaction since you will not buy without talking to the owner and inspecting it. A lot of people take advantage of the free advertising so I personally like that as a source of purchasing. Do some research on the specific car like Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book but also search the car to identify weak and strong points. Consumer reports can be a lot of help in that area. If you do! n't know much about mechanical inspection it would be money well spent ! to take it to a local and trusted mechanic. Negotiate a price in advance ($20 to $50) and listen to their their advice on what to look for before even bring the car. If they don't want to give that free advice the find another.Don't be bashful about paying a premium for that low mileage cream puff that has been garaged. Your mechanic will let you know if the mileage seems correct. Cars need to be driven so watch out for one that hasn't been driven in a long time.I will do the car title and money exchange at my bank if even a little wary but the DMV works also. Tax and registration in my state is handled at the DMV where the title must be notarized (hence the bank meeting). Sometimes you are buying from someone you know where the excessive caution is not needed but still check it out mechanically. Check the numbers on the title to the numbers on the car (usually on the dash near the window and a little hard to find). The DMV will check those numbers also but in my state the! y only need the title. If you buy from a dealer there can be a warranty regardless of advertising on Craigslist. In my state there are also consumer protections that apply to licensed dealers. Treat that transaction just like a private party but they need to make profit to cover overhead, staff, owners, etc. so the prices will be retail. They don't really know the history of the vehicle and will likely have cleaned it up so be cautious and still use your own mechanic....Show more
Babette Deloe: IN PERSON ONLY. CASH ONLY and do not pay unless you get a clear title with the sellers name on the front and nothing filled in on the back until you pay for it.---------Remember, if the cars priced at 20% of retail and you have to pay by paypal or western union, its a great deal !And of course, shipping is free....Show more
Idell Syed: Safety first met the owner at a public parking lot in day light hours and/or take someone with you. Best to take someone who knows a bit ! about cars. Large amount of money it might be best to go to your local! bank and handle the money transaction there (again safety first) Also make sure the owner has the title to the car with (no liens) and that the vin code in the window matches what is on the title. And the tile is in their name or is singed over.
